Biography
Baynes is what happens when Brooklyn and Trinidad raise the same person and neither one wins. Born in New York, shaped by Trinidad from age three, he grew up above a bar where Bob Marley and Vybz Kartel played every night and BET's 106 and Park ran on repeat at his cousins' place. He started writing in primary school, committed to music at 18 and turned down label deals to build Inn House Studios, his own independent company where he operates as artist, producer and CEO. His sound, which he calls CALLALOO after the Trinidadian dish that blends everything into one pot, fuses hip-hop with Soca, Reggae, Dancehall, Calypso and Afrobeats in a way that his growing cross-continental audience feels on both sides of the Atlantic. His single "Sunrise" is out now. His live series "1/2 Way Off the Porch" is on YouTube. And everything else is coming sooner than later.
